A Westside Story
Fulfilling a mission to serve, Sioux Falls FCU is partnering with The Banquet in an effort to help fundraise for a new location on the west side. In 2017, 15,847 meals were served and a new building would mean:
The ability to serve 5 meals per week instead of 2
A fully functioning kitchen, eliminating the need to transfer food from downtown
Adequate restrooms for volunteers & guests
Waiting areas for guests and children
More accessible location for people without transportation
A permanent home for the west side
About The Banquet
Where volunteers are the heart and soul of the ministry. Their mission is to provide a welcoming place where people can gather, receive nourishment and experience love in action; and to assist volunteers in providing food and fellowship to those served through the ministry of The Banquet. They will be vigilant in identifying and fulfilling the needs of the hungry in our diverse community and in encouraging the health and wellness of our guests.
We have students who come to school hungry in every school in Sioux Falls, and we appreciate the support of The Banquet and other programs in meeting the needs of these children. – Jeff Sheets, Hayward Elementary School Principal
Capital Gain Goal
To expand The Banquet feeding ministry to people most in need in the northwest section of Sioux Falls. This fundraiser campaign will allow The Banquet to build and equip a facility where volunteers, the heart and soul of the Banquet ministry, will fulfill the needs of hungry people in our diverse community.
Come to eat. Come to serve. Come to offer hope.
The Birth of The Banquet West
In 2014, after much research, and in response to a serious need for our services in northwest Sioux Falls, The Banquet began serving a meal in rented space on the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in the Nordstrom Johnson Multi-Purpose Building. Currently, Banquet West serves a meal every Tuesday and Wednesday night. While this space is a blessing, it is in a difficult location for families without transportation. The city bus service does not travel into the fairgrounds, preventing people without transportation from seeking a meal.
A new location would be close to the neighborhoods where two Sioux Falls Public Schools serve children with the greateset need. They need our help more than ever to accomplish these tasks. Help bring nourishment to families in need and opportunities for people who want to give back to our community. There are a few ways you can help:
